Yeah, some. Tailwheel's been trimmed to fit, fitted and I've drilled holes for the wing braces and rear-view mirror. Fitted up the torque links on the main gear struts and dry-brushed the wing join details. Adjusted the length of the tailwheel guard, too. I'm going to leave the Future coat until I get back from holidays now as I want to make sure the enamel's well and truly cured before clear-coating for decals.

Slowly getting there:

Glued temporary legs in place of main gear so it doesn't get over-Futured and the one in the nose is to hang onto the aircraft while glossing.

Not a great photo but it shows where I'm at. Should finish the servicing stencilling off tonight, then a wash before another coat of Future.

Came up quite nicely but will need a bit of weathering after the next Future coat.

Nice to progress this. I've also made a few more moves on my Lincoln and started painting the parts for the Spitfire Tr9. Might actually finish a model this year!

Don't you hate it when...

Future clear coat over decals, masking for the gun port blanks when this happened:

Luckily, I found another set of roundels in my 1/48 Hasegawa Mosquito which won't need them as it will become a RAAF version!

Anyway, slowly making progress to the end with this thing. Weathering on the fuselage has been limited mainly to a small amount of exhaust staining and oil stains on lower fuselage as the photos I've seen of these seem to reflect that.

The wings are a different story. Although the guns in the Mk XV weren't fired as often as the earlier versions due to their late introduction to the war, I reasoned that the five ratings it took per wing to fold the wings would make for a fair degree of marking on the lower wings, so I've gone a bit heavier on this.

I've also started on the wing stays. A lot of research on a little-described item suggests these are actually spring-loaded rods with cable ends, so this is what I have so far.

The ends will be cut to size later and small discs added for the attachment points on the wings. Hopefully it'll look okay installed.

Matt coat to come next and reattachment of the pitot tube before fitting the main gear, prop and exhaust...

1/48 Seafire XV - finished!

Postby bell209 » Tue Nov 25, 2014 12:04 pm

Well, it took a long time (my models usually do!) but it's done. I'm pretty happy overall but may have overdone the lower wing weathering a little although I can live with it.

You`ve done a great job and the TSS camouflage is excellent, which paints did you use?

Cheers

Thanks Tony,

They're Humbrol Dark Sea Grey and Medium Sea Grey on top, sky under. Future gloss coat with Future and Tamiya flattening agent over the top. The red is just Humbrol Matt Insignia Red.
