Puckapunyal Tank Museum January 2017

I made a visit out to the Tank Museum at the Puckapunyal Army base today and took some photos some of you may find interesting. The museum is great and full of historic pieces to see and touch (no climbing though).

My only real gripe was that the only Leopard in the Museum grounds was covered up or a variant and though there ware three APC's and a Leopard in operational schemes just out side the museum, you are not permitted to take photos of them and security are watching. This was pretty disappointing as the APC's were what I mainly wanted to see.

The Museum is open Tuesday to Thursday - 10:00 to 4:00 and the last Saturday of the month. Closed on public holidays. Good idea to call them to make sure they are going to be open.

Sorry to hear of the restrictions Troy. At least now civilians can access the Museum.

I would have loved you to get dimensions from the Vickers tank turret.

I had the privilege of taking a RAAF officer into the Technology Hangar a few years ago - and going through a Leopard and S-Tank (including him do some crew gunnery drills); and then meeting one of my Troop Sergeants from 25 years before (not as an exhibit).

Maybe AMI-ers can organise a group visit?

The Taipan on display is in much better condition than the one which was used for the weapons ballistic testing.
The manufacturer was not keen on that particular vehicle being on public display.
