MIRAGE A3-10

Italeri 1/48 Mirage A3-10, 3 SQN Butterworth Malaysia

by Andrew Doppel

Introduction

Serial;         A3-10

Type;          RAAF Mirage IIIO(F)

Based;        3 Squadron, Butterworth, Malaysia (circa February 1983)

Scheme;     Off white, pale blue and light blue-grey.  This scheme was inspired by an illistration of a US Navy Adversary F-5.  It was an experimental scheme which was to be used during Operation 'Cope Thunder 83-5' in the Phillipines later that year but it was deemed too pale and subsequently returned to standard fare three tone 'lizard'.  Prior to this though it had the 3 Squadron 'Flying bomb' and 'Southern Cross' painted on the tail in dark grey and standard size roundels applied.

Kit:              Italeri 1/48 Mirage IIIE (courtesy of Bruce Anders) converted to IIIO.  Scratch built cockpit with modified kit seat, pilot figure from Italeri Hawk 100 kit, re-scribed panel-lines.  Decals OOB, Aussie Decal, Hasegawa RAAF roundels, Roo Decal.  Matra 550 'Magics' (courtesy of Ray Woodford), resin canted launch rails (courtesy of Ryan Hamilton).  All weapons painted in the 'live/armed' colours.  All other colours mixed to match.
