On 17/2/78 A3-8 was on deployment to East Sale for HE bombing practice at Dutson Downs bombing range. The aircraft suffered a tyre blow out at 150 knots during the take off run. It subsequently crashed into the arrestor barrier and was later burnt at Horsham. Parts from the aircraft were however used to repair A3-41 which was later used as an instructional airframe at RAAF Wagga Wagga.
