Classic Airframes 1/48 Anson Mk 1 s/n R3518, 6 SFTS Mallala, Sth Australia, mid 1943

by Max Williams

6 SFTS Mallala SA mid-1943
Standard Dark Earth/Dark Green camouflage with trainer yellow undersides and wing/fuselage bands.  Being an even numbered serial, the scheme is the reverse of the usual colour positions.  The Anson was taken up for a solo cross-country flight by LAC Gordon H Young on 1 July 1943.  He entered cloud, strictly against orders, became disorientated and was seen diving steeply from the 800 feet cloud base before crashing into a hillside in the Eden Valley.  LAC Young was killed and the Anson written off.
Classic Airframes/Special Hobby “Colorful Annie” 1/48th scale.  Paints are a mixture of Tamiya acrylics for the yellow, and Xtracylics for the dark earth/dark green.  Decals were sourced from various companies via Hannants.
