The organisers' from 'IPMS Australia Inc.' have once again
showcased their tireless efforts by bringing us yet another
premier event - in the form of Model Expo 2006. Held over
the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend (10-12 June 2006) - at
the relatively new venue of 'Sandown Entertainment Centre'
- visitors' were treated with a bonanza of modelling talent.
This event proves Australian modellers' are more than competitive
in the World arena and the organising talents of IPMS Australia
officials (and volunteers) is certainly second to none!
Moreover, it was pleasing to see regular AMI visitors'
take out several highly sought after awards and contribute
to the event with visually dramatic displays!
Regular AMI contributor - Mr. Andrew Perren took out several
prizes, including the coveted 'Best RAAF Aircraft' - with
his Airfix 1/48 BAe Hawk 127.
Official results from the competition can be viewed here

Significant to the weekend, but removed from the officialdom
of the event - was the AMI inaugural dinner. Hosted at
a nearby restaurant, the dinner was attended by just over
twenty regular AMI visitors'! Yours truly became a little
'geographically challenged' on the Melbourne road system
and subsequently arrived late (as usual some might say!).
However - late or not, the event was a tremendous opportunity
to sit down and chat with many of the visitors' to this
website. Moreover - I think the opportunity to put a face
to a name was one of the best aspects of the dinner. More
functions such as this will be held in the future. Over
the years, many of you have simply been a name behind a
key board and this dinner went a long way to placing a
'human' side to the website and discussion group.
It was also rewarding to be able to catch up with AMI
sponsors' and shoot the breeze about all things modelling.
Encouragement from many of you was not in short supply
and this only served to spur David and I on with our endeavours
to produce and maintain a premier modelling website. Thankyou
to you all for your kind comments and words of inspiration.
I have composed a five page report of the event - including
a page dedicated to 'People of AMI...'
Well done everyone ! See you all at Model Expo 2007 - where
we hope to have an AMI display on site for you to drop in
and say: "G'day!"
