Introduction

As part of 'AIR87', the Army started looking for a replacement for the Kiowa helicopter to carry out reconnaissance of the battlefield. The Kiowa was an unarmed light helicopter that was unable to defend itself from attack whilst carrying out it's vital job. The ADF looked at a number of aircraft for the job but ended up with the Eurocopter 'Tigre' that has been employed by other countries such as France and Germany. This aircraft is not utilised as a tank killer but is capable of that job when given the correct armament.
