Introduction

This is list of aircraft, and a guide to which 1/72 scale model kits, conversion parts, decals, other accessories and references that can be used to produce reasonably accurate models of aircraft of the Australian Defence Forces, from Series One of the RAAF numbering system up to and including the present day.   It is not intended that this is considered as the definitive list on the subject, but my own work compiled through talking to many different people and researching the many modelling magazines available today.

If any kits have been omitted, are out of production or you know a better way of producing a more accurate kit in 1/72 scale, please contact me at the address on the last page of this booklet.

Where more than one kit is listed against an A or N number, they are listed in order of the writer's preference.

The list of suppliers in the back of the book is just a small sample of mail order firms through which I have bought kits/accessories and found to be honest and offer good service, and is by no means meant to be a complete list of mail order firms, these others can be found in the various modelling magazines.

All photographs taken by the Author unless otherwise credited.

First Published in June 1996, in Canberra, Australia with the help of Greg Peters in conjunction with the ACT Scale Modellers’ Society’s hosting of the NSW Interclub Modelling Championships.

This sixth edition (fifth edition was published in August 2001), is the on-going result of a lot of intensive research through modelling magazines and the internet shop sites to ensure that the information contained within is current at the time of production, May 2003.

I would also like to thank Fred Harris, Rodney Spooner and Peter Hobbins for their input since the last edition.

I would also like to thank my wife Annette who between putting up with me changing jobs and complaining about needing to upgrade my camera, computer, etc. has supported my endeavour wholeheartedly – thank you.

Also to a good mate in Kevin Ginnane for his tutoring in the art of good aircraft photography, though whether it’s worked or not is subject to interpretation of my ability as a photographer, and not his ability as a teacher.
